The Lead Up to the FA Cup Final 2008

\"2008Portsmouth had finished in a very respectable 8th place in the Premiership so if they won the FA Cup they would secure a place in the first round of the UEFA Cup. Cardiff had finished mid table in the Coca Cola Championship if they were to win it would have been the first time since 1980 that a team from outside the top division had won the competition.

Cardiff

The third round started off by making history as Cardiff were playing the lowest ever ranked team to reach the third round; Chasetown FC who play in the Southern League Division One, Cardiff managed a 3-1 win, in the fourth Cardiff travelled to League One side Hereford United (who knocked out Coventry City FC in the 2006 Carling Cup) with Cardiff winning 2-1 at Ninian Park. The same scoreline put Cardiff through to the semi final following their sixth round win against Middlesbrough. Cardiff\'s first trip to Wembley provided a 1-0 win against Barnsley.
