FA Cup 2010 - Winners Chelsea

Chelsea 1-0 Portsmouth

Chelsea retained the FA Cup as they beat Portsmouth 1-0 with Didier Drogba scoring the only goal of the game with a second-half free-kick. The result meant that Chelsea had won their first ever Premier League and FA Cup double.

Head-To-Head Record

The omens weren't at all good for Portsmouth heading into the Final with Chelsea as they hadn't beaten them since 1960, losing 20 of the 28 meetings since then. This included two defeats earlier in the 2009/10 season, with Chelsea winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in December before thrashing them 5-0 at Fratton Park a few months before the final in March. The only previous FA Cup meeting between the sides came in the 1996/97 season when Chelsea hammered Pompey 4-1 at Fratton Park.

Route To Final

Chelsea started their campaign off in style by thrashing Watford 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. This was followed by a 2-0 win at Preston and then a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to Cardiff. In the quarter-finals they were simply too strong for Stoke and then in the last four they brushed aside Aston Villa.

Portsmouth had a nervy start to the 2009/10 FA Cup as they were held at home by Coventry City. The replay proved to be just as close with the two sides level after normal time. However, in the final seconds of extra time Aaron Mokoena popped up and won the game for Pompey. In the fourth round they squeezed past Sunderland before an extremely satisfying 4-1 victory away to their bitter local rivals Southampton in the fifth round. This followed by consecutive 2-0 victories against Birmingham and Tottenham as Pompey reached their second FA Cup final in just three years.
